Global Research Trends in Sustainability and Environmental Issues: A Sustainable Environment and Future Directions

A research team from FISIP Universitas Padjadjaran conducted a bibliometric analysis mapping four decades (1982–2022) of global sustainability and environmental research. Examining 1,324 Scopus-indexed publications, the study reveals a significant rise in research output since 2016, with dominant themes such as climate change, environmental degradation, ecological justice, and green technology innovation.

The analysis identifies influential countries, institutions, and journals, while outlining a roadmap for future research directions covering circular economy, smart cities, biodiversity conservation, and renewable energy. This article was published in the Journal of Population and Social Studies (Scopus Q1), further strengthening FISIP UNPAD’s contribution to advancing sustainable development scholarship.
