About the program
The International Short Course Program, “Indonesia Outlook 2023: in Social and Political Perspectives”, is a one-week offline student exchange program for international and Indonesian students held by the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. During the program, students will have the chance to participate in both academic and non-academic activities to broaden and enrich their experiences on Indonesia and Indonesian cultures while studying at Universitas Padjadjaran as one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Indonesia, located in the city of Bandung, West Java.
Participating students will enroll in diverse courses introducing various social and political subjects in Indonesian and global contexts. Students will learn through case-based and interactive learning; while also engaging with other fellow students in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. During the program, they will also participate in excursion programs.
There are eight courses to be delivered during the program, which cover the topic on society, culture, and development; politics and democracy; public policy and governance; social welfare design and policy; foreign policy and international relations; and digital and creative economy. Course Title
The Dynamic of Development Policy in Indonesia: The Role of Public Administration in Addressing Strategic Development Issues
Course Description
This course is an introduction to development policy in Indonesia and the role of public administration in addressing the strategic development issue in Indonesia. This course combines description and analysis with an emphasis on the elaboration of simple and useful models for understanding the issue that compromises policy and governance issues in Indonesia.

COURSE TITLE
Identity, Development, and Resilience Democracy
Course Description
This course studies the relations between identity, development, and democratic resilience. The aim is to understand how social and economic changes at the local (village) level can influence the identity construction and capacity of village communities to respond to these changes as part of efforts to strengthen local democracy. Development practices often trigger resistance when they ignore the participation of local communities or marginalize their access to resources in their villages. Due to this, it is necessary to examine the current development practices and their implications for the identity construction of the local community. After understanding these implications, the discussion continued on the capacity building of local communities to participate more actively in village resource management as a prerequisite for more democratic village governance.

Indonesian Electoral System
Course Description
Elections in Government Science is a process for the formation of government at the national, province, district/city, and village levels. Except for village government, the participation of political parties in elections will determine the pairs that will be elected in the elections, and will also produce members of the DPR and Provincial and Regency/City’s DPRD. In fact, the electoral system affects the exercise of government in Indonesia, both central and local governments.

Indonesia’s Foreign Policy in ASEAN and Indo-Pacific
Course Description
Indo-Pacific region that stretches from the west coast of the US to the Indian Ocean consists of various countries and regional organizations. Given the fact that ASEAN is geographically located in between US and China, the rivalry is being questioned upon its relevance in centrality, non-intervention, and neutrality principle. The economic and military competition has been escalating dramatically in the region and therefore, Indonesia as one of the traditional ASEAN members needs to avoid the potential conflict diplomatically. The course will examine and evaluate Indonesia’s foreign policy approach towards international conflict which by far has been considered successful. The objective of this course is to explore and to understand the reason behind Indonesia and ASEAN different approaches in comparison with the EU or NATO in maintaining regional security in the Indo-Pacific.

Adaptive Social Protection
Course Description
This course provides the basics to understand social protection concept, development, and application. It specifically discusses the urgency of Adaptive Social Protection (ASP) to protect and strengthen the resilience of the poor and vulnerable groups in facing the impacts of unexpected shocks at macro levels. In addition, the course analyzes the potentials and challenges for ASP implementation in a developing region context.

Social Entrepreneurship in the Context of Human-Centered Development
Course Description
The development paradigm that is expected to be able to develop people as a whole -without having to be overshadowed by indicators of economic growth and focusing growth on regions or sectors that are considered productive- is often referred to as human-centered development. An important feature of this new paradigm is to place humans as the center (final goal) and development activities and not just as objects or tools. The highest goal of this development paradigm is the achievement of human development.
This course will explore the urgency of social entrepreneurship education in Indonesia in the context of human-centered development.

Anthropological Perspectives in Sociocultural Changes of Sundanese Highland/Rivershed People
Course Description
This course will give a brief overview of social and cultural changes in the Sundanese people who live in highlands and close to the watershed. This course will discuss various aspects of social-cultural changes in the everyday life of the community. The discussion will cover how people cope with their environmental surroundings. The description of shifting, such as in agroecosystems, values in gender, economic life, and traditional/current health system, due to the changing environment.

The Creative Business Short Course in Indonesia aims to provide aspiring students with essential knowledge and skills in creative businesses. This short course offers a comprehensive lecture that covers various aspects of creative entrepreneurship, including ideation, business planning, marketing, operation, human resource, and financial management in Indonesia. Students will have the opportunity to learn from lectures and industry experts and engage in creative business case study to enhance their practical understanding of the creative business landscape in Indonesia.
